Project

A language with its own identity.

Kwechiri is an Igbo-first programming language and educational ecosystem under active development.

Purpose

Kwechiri aims to make programming more accessible to Igbo speakers while maintaining a professional compiler architecture and a path to modern software ecosystems.

Its long-term identity includes its own specification, compiler stages, runtime abstractions, Standard Library, tools, documentation, and educational model. The initial TypeScript compiler and JavaScript target are implementation choices, not the language definition.

Governance

The human project owner is the final authority for language identity, Igbo terminology, syntax, semantics, public APIs, branding, licensing, compatibility, publication, and releases.

Engineering proceeds through explicit milestones. Material language changes require a documented decision, implementation, tests, review, and owner approval before closure.

Development status

Kwechiri currently runs on Node.js and has no public package release. Browser execution, editor integration, final terminology, and 1.0 compatibility remain future work.
